Severe traffic all over Dublin 24

I was driving home from work in Citywest at roughly 5:45 and the traffic was horrendous. Bumper to bumper almost everywhere between Saggart, Citywest, Tallaght, Cheeverstown and Kingswood. This was also the case on the N81 and N7. Would anyone here know why that was?
