Vodafone fibre modem issues HG658c

Got my fibre connected today & while I'm very happy with the speeds I am having a few issues with the modem.

Firstly the UPNP feature in this modem does not work. It's enabled within the modem settings but my PS3, for the first time in 5 years, is now reporting UPNP unavailable. UPNP allows devices to tell the modem to open the correct ports automatically in order to connect to certain services, voice chat etc.
I was advised by VF tech support to check portforward.com but this defies the point in having a UPNP setting within the modem.

Secondly this modem also only allows you to configure 2 paid DDNS services & has no option for free services something most standard modems allow.

Has anyone found a work around for these issues or even tried using an alternative VDSL2 modem?

I'm not well up on bridging, does this mean I could connect a netgear wireless router to the fibre modem which would essentially be passing through the connection?
