    Hi guys...

I am looking to buy my son a new phone as a present - The best PAYG Android ~€180-240 range ?

I was looking at the Xperia J today but then online reviews were terrible. Now I am lost. I want a reasonable screen size ~4in - 4.5in. The main things are smooth operation, fast enough to cope with the current and next android release, expandable memory (target 16-32Gb). Camera is not really that important. Nor is gaming. I'll proba get it unlocked.

    Tks !

pick up a Nexus 4 if theres any left, nothing will match it for the price. plus they are SIM free so your not tied to a network, also you will have updates regularly and on time, my 2011 Galaxy Nexus is still getting updates and is on the latest 4.3 where even my 2013 S4 was stuck on 4.2.2

I am very worried about buying stuff like this. I read so much about after sales troubles with being reported stolen and then the phone killed etc.

Is there nothing worth buying from O2, Vodafone or 3 in Ireland ?

Also ... neither this guy nor three others I found doing the same search, wil post to ireland. One will but only if you pay him by bank transfer .... very dodgy.

Tks for the help though !

    Parcelmotel.com gets round that issue.

Getting this phone if you live in Ireland has always been a bit of hassle. Well worth the effort though.

    Guys - it's not that I don't appreciate the help ...

But do I have to abandon this thread ? Has no one any views on The best PAYG Android ~€180-240 range ? available from the main providers here in Ireland ? I don't really want to go ahead and get this Xperia but if I can't identify a better model I'll have no choice :(

Check out the HTC Desire 500 or the Sony Experia M both are around the 240 quid mark but you may have to switch operator to get the best price.

Maybe I'm being a bit negative but most Android's under the €300 or so mark seem to be kind of rubbish. Sure, they'll be great for a while but will slow down and get clunky in future.

It's all relative isn't it ? I'm an iPhone user so they're all rubbish :D ... but I need to chose the best for him, for the money I have ...

haha, Windows Phone user myself and even the lower end phones seem to perform much the same as the higher end ones.

Though I suppose with so many more Androids there will always be differences.

Why not get him a PAYG iPhone in that price range then?

    Compare like with like.
