New build + how much is my old PC worth

I'm hoping to upgrade quite a few parts in my existing PC after Christmas, but I was just thinking would I be better off to sell the whole lot (easier to sell maybe?) and build a completely new PC.

    Current PC:
    • AMD Phenom II 965 BE @ 4.0GHz
    • 6GB of standard OCZ DDR3 RAM
    • Some standard AM3 socket Gigabyte board
    • Gigabyte Radeon HD 7950 (bought this year)
    • Corsair HX 750W PSU (bought this year)
    • Antec 900 case
    • Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium
    • 24" 60Hz Acer LCD monitor
    • An old Logitech wireless keyboard
    • Zowie EC1 Evo mouse (bought a few weeks ago, great mouse BTW!)

What could I expect to get for the system above, minus the keyboard and mouse?

If I was selling the components individually, I'd probably keep the soundcard, mouse/keyboard, PSU, monitor (maybe) and the video card (maybe).

In the new year, I am hoping to get the following:
    • Intel 4770k
    • 16GB Corsair Vengence RAM (1866MHz)
    • Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD
    • ROG Maximus VI Formula board
    • Aerocool X-Predator (white) case

I don't really have a specific budget at this time, but the above comes to just over €1k on Hardwareversand.

I'd also possibly like to either get an R9 290X or have two R9 280Xs in Crossfire (only a "possibly" at the moment).

    Thanks!

I reckon you are looking at ~ €500, for everything. There is no value to be had selling second hand a lot of the time unfortunately!

    Thanks for the reply!

Does that include the graphics card and other stuff I'm thinking of keeping? If it does, I think it's a very big underestimate...for example, Gigabyte 7950s are making €180-200 on eBay at the moment.

If the monitor is included, maybe 600-ish. I sold a machine recently for 650, i5 2500K, 8GB Ram, 7950, Haf 922 Case, etc - something is only worth what you can get for it, and to be fair your machine is pretty outdated in the cpu department. I'd say for the machine on its own, 500 isn't too far off.

It was mainly looking at the box, those 7950s should fetch just shy of 200. CPU (@stock) is slightly better than a haswell pentium 50, ram @ 50, MB 60, PSU 80, Case 90?, Monitor 120, Mouse and keyboard 50.

So 700 minus 25% as it is second hand -€525.

That said, you dont mention hard drives or windows in your description, but to be honest i would be surprised if you get a huge amount more

I would definitely keep the sound card, items like that usually have little impact on sale prices generally speaking in the market for pre-built gaming PC's.

    OK, thanks lads.

I'd probably keep the mouse as well, as it's a professional mouse I paid €65 for only about 3 weeks ago.

Regarding HDD/OS, it has a 1TB Samsung HDD with Win 7 Ultimate installed. I also have Logitech X-210 speakers (which were quite cheap). If I was to sell this for around the €550-600 mark and stretch my original "budget" another bit, I'd be looking at something like this...

    - Intel Core i7 4770K Quad Core Retail CPU - 281.11
    - ASUS MAXIMUS VI FORMULA (C2) - 257.65
    - Corsair CMZ16GX3M2A1866C10 Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1866 Mhz CL10 XMP - 147.58
    - Corsair Professional Series AX860i 860W - 169.26
    - Western Digital Black - 3.5 inch 1TB Desktop SATA Hard Drive - OEM - 73.59
    - Samsung 840 Series Pro 256GB 2.5 inch SATA Solid State Drive - 198.72
    - Aerocool XPredator White Edition, ohne Netzteil - 107.96
    - Logitech Z506 Surround Sound Speakers - 69.11
    - Asus PB278Q 27-inch Widescreen 2560x1440 LED Multimedia Monitor - 514.81
    - Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 DirectCU II 3GB GDDR5 Graphics Card - 512.33
    - DVD write/read drive - 15.00 approx.
    - Soundcard - will be keeping
    - Mouse - will be keeping

Total of approx. €2350, but as I won't be buying until possibly February I'd expect this to drop a small bit.

I'm open to opinions on all of that (particularly the case), but that is something similar to the system I'd like to have. I'll be looking at a non-referenced R9 290X. I'd also like recommendations for a keyboard for under €90 (can be mechanical).

I hope I'm not forgetting anything :pac:

    Thanks!

EDIT: turns out I did forget something. Will also look at getting either a H90i or H100 cooler.

What is it you'll be doing? At a glance, it seems like incredible overkill on the board, power supply and even the GPU given the monitor size, CPU could also be changed down if it's solely gaming in mind, if you've other uses for the machine however that is probably OK. You could shave about 700 off that and end up with identical performance at 1080p.

I have the Predator X3 White and I love it :)

Mainly gaming, but also a fair bit of Photoshop - some 3DSMax, After Effects, Premier Pro work also, but not much.

The board because it's the sexiest board out there at the moment :D and I'd like to have room to expand in the future. Future-proofing is one of my main reasons for the choice of components - my current PC above (which cost about €1300 at the time) is about 6 years old now and is still not overly bad by today's standards.

I would like to get a bigger monitor (1440p) but they're incredibly expensive - probably because they generally don't come smaller than 27".

Good to know about the case - it does look awesome :)
How would it compare, size-wise, to an Antec 900?

Also, instead of getting a dedicated CPU cooler, how expensive would water cooling be to install? I've no experience with water cooling, but I'd like to give it a shot if it isn't too expensive.
