    Guys,

1st time form 11 filler, please be gentle as I have a couple of questions.
PAYE employee with some additional income all from invoices from some IT work from home.

Not intending to claim an expenses but all work was done from home.

Assessment Type - Q4 - Wifey is a stay at home mum but we are joint assessed for PAYE so I can claim some of her credits. What would be correct choice on Form11?

PAYE Tax Credit - Q515 - Is this an additional tax credit for this return or is it a credit which has already been allowed under PAYE?

105/106/122 - Does the same figure go in these boxes?

    Thanks in advance.

Assessment Type - Q4 - Tick Joint Assessment - You'll need to include your wifes PAYE income on the return too

PAYE Tax Credit - Q515 - It has already been allowed under PAYE but tick it anyway

105/106/122 - Does the same figure go in these boxes? Yes if you have no expenses -- but you must have some! portion of ESB , Telephone etc

Is this extra income less than 3K?

Really appreciate the reply, it is slowly getting a bit clearer.

Income is above €3k and wife has no income.

In terms of expenses, this was IT work mostly done remotely from home with some visits to the customer. So do we have scope to claim for electricity/Heating/Mobile Phone/Broadband? If so are there guidelines for what can be claimed?

I take all of the income is subject to tax under form 11 and there are no credits/allowances apart from expenses?

In terms of the tax rates applied, am I correct in thinking that because my PAYE rate would be in the higher bracket, then tax for this income would attract the higher rates of tax, usc etc. too?

    Thanks again

This is the guidance on allowable expenses that are partly private partly trade

Just use a reasonable / prudent apportionment - dont do the dog on it

"What about expenses which are partly for business and partly private?

Where expenditure relates to both business and private use, only that part which relates to your business will be allowed. Examples of such expenditure are rent, electricity, telephone charges etc., where the premises involved is used partly for business and partly for private purposes. These expenses will need to be apportioned to exclude the private use"

YDo you have computer equipment? this can be claimed over 8 years as capital allowances

Do you and your wife qualify for this?

    http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/credits/home-carers.html

if its small money just include the cost as an expense

Yes - Tax will be at the higher rate in your case

Citizenpain, again thanks for taking the time to respond.

have the carers allowance on the PAYE side already, but thanks.
There is some IT equipment but nothing that I would really have invoices etc. for at this stage.
I have looked at the expenses and in terms of electricity/heating I have added an expense for about 1/6 of the annual total.

    Cheers
