How does this work. A friend of mine said the paper printed a photo he submitted but 6 months later he was still waiting to get paid. Do the papers have to pay for photos and what are the rates etc?

    Thanks.

Yes they do pay and the rates depend on which paper.

If he's waiting to be paid then surely he knows what the rate was if he has invoiced them? Ring the paper and ask for the picture dsesk and they will give you all the details

You must invoice the paper. Different papers have different rates.

Many papers accept and print submitted images, without payment. It will depend on the terms detailed when the image is submitted, the catagory it is printed in, etc. You often see "Readers Photos" or such sections. These images tend to be submitted for free, and no payment is made.

Contact the paper, the photo desk, and everything will be clarified, but your friend should have specified terms when submitting and then needs to invoice the paper after usage.
