Operating a Sky DRX 890 without a HDD for freesat

    Hello

After finishing with sky I now have a DRX 890 with a 500GB HDD that I'd love to make us of in a desktop that's been crying out for a bigger HDD for years.

Has anyone operated a DRX890 for freesat without a HDD?

My only worry is that the box will still require the 250GB minimum for Sky Anytime or that some of the software is held on the HDD.

    My other question:

Seeing as I also now have a redundent line in from the LNB that was used for Sky+

What type of cable should i look for to make use of it in a separate box?

I've an old Ross receiver box in the kitchen that I'd like to make use of

    Thanks Everyone

Not sure the box would work at all without a drive. Anytime certainly will not work.

You can buy a new 500gb desktop drive for under €50. Plus you can probably get a second hand one for peanuts.

no it wont work without hdd, sell it and buy a bigger than 500gb drive. By the way to get the drive out of a DRX890 is... difficult to say the least.

You can still use the box as FREE TO AIR but as already shown it is not possible to get it to default to the UK epg unless you put a UK card in it.

The 2 cables in are just sat cables, so if the ross is a digital receiver just unplug sat cable and plug into the ross.

you can make the drx 890 work with just one cable as well.

I might try and replace the 500GB with the an old 40gb drive I've lying around the house

Curious to know if anyone has successfully operated a DRX890 for FTA with a HDD of less than 250GB or no HDD at all.

I've seen the online guides, looks tricky, I've experience with repairing guitar amps so I reckon I can do it safely.

    .

I've a UK card on the way via Setanta, so luckily I'm sorted for that

Hd box uses a sata drive so highly unlikely you can fit an old 40gb drive to the box....as most of them that small Id imagine would be an ide drive....the sky box works only when it detects the drive and it must be at a relevant speed otherwise the old drive would be way 2 noisy...

Also the guide is stored on the drive so I would leave well alone.
