Can anybody here who's been through this give me some info please.
I am thinking of changing from SKY SD to Free To Air satellite and saorview combination but don't know which of these to choose from.

    Billfreetv.ie €289
    Byebyetvbills.ie $289
    Eirsat.ie €349
    Freetoairtv.ie $349

    1. Do they all have the same channels?
    2. Will my old SD TV work with the new box until I replace it?
    3. Will I need to buy an external storage device to record TV?
    4. Are some boxes/ user interfaces better than others.
    Thanks in advance.

You just need the box if you already have the dish.

A Ferguson Ariva 250 will get you both the Saorview and the UK Satellite Channels. It also plays MKV/DIVX files off USB HDD and you can record to it.

You will need an aerial for the saorview part. You can mix your Saorview with your Satellite Channels in your own customised list. The remote will also control your TV/Amp etc.

It has a scart and a HDMI.

About €100 or so. Thats the cheap and cheerful.

There are also linux boxes which require a computer type skills that do more, but are more expensive.

The more tuners the more you can record and watch something else.

What set top boxes are being supplied with each package ? As STB points out if you already have working dish then you can self install. Only thing you may need outside help with is the aeriel to receive RTE/Saorview
