Nursing Home Tax Credit Query

To all you accountant's out there, in my mind this makes sense but you might tell me otherwise.
My mam is in a nursing home and I am technically paying the nursing home fees which are huge.
As a PAYE employee I reckon I can claim a Tax Credit for these nursing home fees each year.
Here is the tricky part, my dad, who does not pay tax now as he is retired, has gifted me a sum of money which is well under and threshold to CAT. From this sum of money I do actually pay the nursing home fees from, sometimes I have to add to it myself if the funds are not fully there each month.

Do you think am I entitled to a tax credit or in the event of an audit, would the Revenue see it that my dad is actually paying the fees and not me.

    Thanks for your help

    I agree with Citizenpain.

The gift from your father is a separate transaction from the payment to the nursing home.

it is up you to spend the gift on what you want.
