I contacted Richer Sounds Belfast & they said LG Model 32LN575V has dual tuner to tune Free Satellite & Saorview.
To double check, I rang LG & she checked & said none of the LG TVs have dual tuner to tune Free Satellite & Saorview.
Who to believe. Can anyone using this model tell me

Perhaps that stupid girl in LG did'nt know the difference between Freeview HD and Saorview.;)

Many of the LG tv's have duel tuners. Look at the antennae inputs to see if there is a F-type socket (sat input).

Was going to buy a 32" but decided to wait for the Jan sales.

I take it you think the LG girl is wrong. I would like to buy in Cork. PC World Cork have LG Model 32LN575V. I rang PC World - got their call centre - explained my location & query - they said this model has no dual tuner - can only tune Saorview.
Do u think it can tune Saorview & Free Satellite channels.

Going by the LG website, it would seem that all the current models available here have satellite tuners.*

Take a look at the Powercity site too, the LG tvs there are promoted as 'Saorview & satellite'.

*Some cheapie or otherwise 'special' models might be an exception.

After conflicting answers from phone queries - I went to the store & saw with my own eyes - LG 32LN578V has 2 connectors at the back - one for Saorview & the other for Satellite - knowledgable guy in store confirmed this for me.
After all that, I think I will buy Smart Samsung UE32F5500, because it has RTE & TV3 players embedded on the main screen & the LG TV does not. My thinking is - even if I bought LG TV, I am likely to finish up buying PVR box to record & play programmes. This being the case, I will access the Free Satellite channels through the PVR, & the Samsung has the advantage of embedded RTE & TV3 player over the LG TV.
    Any flaws in this thinking.

But are they Saorview approved or freeview?

Perhaps she did and the sets are not Saorview approved.

These 32" sets are on the Saorview approved list.

I've seen that before as well but i actually think it's 42"

It's to do with your eyes, apparently you don't notice the difference of HD on anything smaller than that

Edit: 1080p it's about, I'll try to find a link

Are u saying there is no point in paying extra for full HD 32" TV, because screen is too small to notice difference - & if want 32" TV, should go for cheaper "HD Ready" TV resolution 1366 x 768.

There is a difference, even in a 32in set. But it is much more noticeable in the bigger sets. Now you will never see the difference in any showroom, because all the tvs are rigged up via hdmi and are optimsed to the nth degree in an effort to shift the stuff. You would probably be better informed if you talk to family, friends, workmates etc who would have a 32in tv.

I would be inclined to go for the screen that has the same 'native' resolution as the source material, 1080 vertical 'lines' in practically all cases.

This is very funny because I was experiencing the same. I actually went into PC world in Galway and saw that one of these had a sat tuner port. The guy in pc world said it would not pick up a sat but he was coming out with some wild comments. i actually think he was confusing free to air with freesat.

LG were another funny example as they said it would not pick up a sat either. When I asked well why was it in the TV, he disappeared(was using the online facility)

I did see in some sites it said DVB-s2 others said no so it was very conflicting information.

Not true. Depends on how far you are away from the TV, and how good your eyes are.

using the formula if you sit any further than 4.17 foot from a 32" full HD TV, with 1080p being displayed you'll lose detail

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimum_HDTV_viewing_distance#Human_visual_system_limitation

    4twp4w.jpg

i think that is what a lot of articles/sources class as the minimum sitting distance, you can also be sitting too far away from a tv to notice HD

    here's another chart on sizes
