Honda have launched or are about to, the 1.6 Diesel CRV. Seems good value at €32k.

I cant make my mind up whether this is great, or awful.

Great - super cheap tax, CRV's are "affordable" again, super frugal, finally available in 2WD. Good for appliance buyers.

Worst - Oh Lord there is a 1.6 diesel powering a large SUV, 2.2 diesel 4WD will probably not sell anymore. Bad for petrol heads.

No sign of that engine going into the Accord which just seems nuts...

I can't see any petrol heads caring whether or not the 2.2 diesel sells.. :)

I do. If i want a CRV for a family in a few years time, I'd like the option of a 2.2 diesel, but there wont be any! We had a 06 2.2 CRV and the engine was great, really torquey and made up for the fact i was driving a CRV. If you could only get a 1.6 it really would be a bit pants.

Petrol heads have to drive boring cars sometimes too. Diesels and all ;)

I'd be more sad about the demise of the Forester petrol turbos myself. :)

I guess its more of a generalisation than model specific, that we are loosing out on the likes of Forester Turbo's right down to half decent powerful diesel engines.

In 5-8 years time, people will be scanning the classified looking for a less-than-10-year-old car and going, WTF, i dont want any of these!
