Buying a small tractor

    Hello to everyone,

Just looking for some advice on buying a tractor.

I'm looking to buy a small tractor (80-120 HP). I will only need the tractor
until next May as I am moving to Canada, therefore I am looking to buy
a desirable/sought after tractor, that I can easily sell on again next year before I go away.

I was looking at a Massey Ferguson 390 with front loader in the UK which looks tidy. Which other makes/models would be worth considering? budget is upto €20k.

Thanks in advance for any advice/replies :).

If your only looking to have it a short time would ya not think of hiring one out as cant think of anything more troublesome as trying to sell a tractor before a deadline

Did call a local lad about hiring but for what 7 months hire will cost it,ll be cheaper to buy something and re-sell it prior to going away.

Had a feeling about that, have you a back up plan in case you couldn't sell the tractor before ya went to canada

What jobs have you for it? Could you get a contractor to do them?

In that case better off with hire or a contractor unless ypu ate full sure it will sell by the deadline.

Id go with the massey, i think getting a conttactor out a few tines would start to add up and there are some other treads about hiring, not cheap

    Hello lads,

Thanks for the replies, just to update I ended up buying a 1996 MF 390T from a lad in UK, tractor is like new had only 1 owner from new and had spent its time on an apple orchard only used for light duties, shes running really well, my neighbour has agreed to buy it off me before I go away so I,ll have my money back and will have had the use of tractor for the last few months for free :-)

There is a cnut of a hand clutch for the pto in them. Has anyone ever devised/engineered/magivered an easier way to turn the pto on on one of these? I'm almost at the point of putting a small double action ram, like a ram for opening/closing a fertiliser spreader on to the fcuking thing.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Have a 100-90 here, hope to get rid of it in a year or two. Would love a 6410 Deere if a clean one could be found. Getting rare now though.

Cable may be jamming in its outer sleeve. When it snaps, then you will see what a frigger of a thing to refit. You would need to be double jointed.
