I read Durans autobiography recently and he says a ringside journalist thought he heard him say "No Mas" and so the legend was born but Duran denies ever uttering those words. He states that he said " I cannot fight with a clown" in Spanish and walked away. Whatever he said, it was the only time that Duran's machismo was ever broken in the ring.

Although Duran would have seen it as the ultimate act of machismo, turning and walking away from Leonard out of disgust for his cowardice. Whether he believes it or not is another story.

One of the more annoying things about this fight (besides the ending ) is the way that Leonard fans have since built up the complete lie that Duran quit because he was getting outclassed, hammered, etc. when in fact it was actually a very close fight with not an awful lot of action. Leonard moved and clowned constantly, with Duran struggling to pin him down, but Ray wasn't exactly landing a whole lot either. He was only 2 points up on 2 judges cards and 1 point up on the other - not exactly the one-sided beating many would lead you to believe.
