HTC Desire 500 and TCD Myzone setup

Can't for the life of me figure out how to set this one up. I'm at Trinity College Dublin, trying to get my myzone.tcd.ie account working on my HTC Desire 500, but am not sure on the settings to use.

Here's what I'm asked for after I click to create an account and select "Gmail":

email and password
Next screen (Incoming settings)

Protocol (POP, IMAP, APOP)
email address
username
password
IMAP server
Security Type (None, SSL, TSL)
Server Port

Now I get an error reading "Cannot connect to the mail server to verify your account information. Your server is not responding".

If I continue anyway, the next screen (Outgoing server settings) reads:

username
password
SMTP server
Security Type (None, SSL, TSL)
Server Port

Should I be inputting imap.gmail.com or imap.tcd.ie as the IMAP server? It seems to go through to the next page if I use imap.gmail.com. However, I can't get through the next page without an error, trying both smtp.gmail.com and smtp.tcd.ie.

If I try the smtp.tcd.ie it gives the error mentioned above, and if I use smtp.gmail.com it says "Your outgoing server does not support authentication. Please verify your outgoing server settings."

If I just continue with this error, I'm getting emails in fine, but I can't send any.

I know this is a wall of text, but if anyone could help out it'd be amazing!

I know it's not exactly an answer to your question, but I set up automatic forwarding to my normal Gmail account back in first year. Avoids a lot of hassle.

Well at the moment I'm managed to at least get it receiving emails, just unable to send. Might be something to do with Trinity rather than my phone settings.
