Can you wear normal contact lens for your sight along with the contact lenses they have in costume shops for scary looking eyes ?

I would guess no. I am pretty your contact should say to not wear multiple lens in each eye. Not sure you would even be able to sit one pair upon a 2nd. I know some morning when I have been rushing I have gone to put in my contact lens only to find I had already put them. When I brought.= the lens near my eye it would not adhere to the 2nd lense. It was an instance give-away.

Very bad idea as it would decrease the amount of oxygen getting to the eye by at least half, so would put you at risk of dryness and damage to the eye (especially when removing them).

Even if I wore them for say 5/6 hours ?

Look, you could of course wear them for a few hours, but even in that length of time you also could damage your eyesight and cause yourself unnecessary discomfort. I had a conversation about this with my optician lately and he reckons the only thing more unsafe than wearing novelty contacts, is wearing novelty contacts with prescription ones, particularly if drink is involved!
Is it too late to get prescription novelties? Have you checked with your optician?

Best off asking your optician, as they may be able to refer you to somewhere that could ship something close to your prescription that is coloured.

I say close, as they'll be selling you a generic lens, as opposed to something fined tuned for you.

BTW, best to ring them soonish rather than popping in later, to increase chances of getting it shipped to you in time.

Short answer no. You seriously reduce the amount of oxygen getting to your corneas.

As has been suggested, go see your optometrist and get ones in your prescription.

Can I ask a question about these coloured lens too? I don't wear contacts normally, but wanted to buy these for halloween. What are they like to use/wear for a non-contact lens wearer? I don't really want to spend €20 on them if they're going to be painful/dangerous to use. Cheers ;)

Don't buy them from a costume shop. It is actually illegal for them to sell them to you without doing an assessment on your eyes. In general contact lenses are fine once you are shown how to insert and remove them correctly

Where would you suggest they're bought from?
I've been looking online and can't think where in Dublin sells coloured contacts (I don't wear contacts or glasses).
My immediate thought was the costume shop next to the Gaiety.

    Thanks

From an opticians. Contact lenses (even just cosmetic ones) are classified as medical devices and should not be sold to people without a proper examination. Think about it, any damage to your eyes could be permanent, it's worth it to just go see a professional

I just saw this article on the huffington post. I know it's American based but the information is exactly the same as for Ireland

And the home page of the Association of Optometrists Ireland

Anyone who sticks cheap tacky Halloween contact lenses in their eyes pretty much deserves everything they get. Sheer lunacy

Hey just to say I got some from a costume shop in the end and they were completely fine.
They were Edit ones that you just wear for 7 hours and throw them away.
No soreness or red eyes or any other ill effects.
They're sold by all the costume shops, so are obviously reputable.
The lenses are sold in two sealed jars of solution, make sure everything's clean when you put them in/ take them out and I think you should be ok with these.
I don't wear glasses / contacts usually so was pretty nervy about anything causing damage to my eyes.
Maybe I just got lucky, but just wanted to say if anyone is going for this option, the Edit lenses were fine for me and I'd get them again.

As stated previously that is illegal. Also most ill-effects will not be noticable to you. Yes, it may have worked for you but that does not mean it hasn't affected your eyes negatively for the future. And again to reiterate, it is illegal

Reputable opticians will not allow anybody to take a pair of contact lenses home unless they are absolutely satisfied that the customer displays a competency in inserting and removing the lenses, and the lenses themselves are fitting properly and comfortably on the eyeball. The thought of a person just going into a costume shop and buying contacts over the counter (particularly somebody who's never worn them before) is plain wrong and is grossly irresponsible on behalf of the shop owner and the customer.
