Hi...just a question out of interest here....!!

I have just received my pin for the PAYE Anytime site and have gone through it and registered my details. However, I am wary of sending off for the P21 statement as I have heard that if you owe them tax this will be caught out on the statement. Not going into any specifics, i am in a good job and I have been there for seven years and like any big company the taxation on my wage goes through the accounts department so my tax that I have paid up to date should be perfect..........but there is always the What If!??

I do not want to get the statement only to find out that I owe them instead of the other way around :)...

Has anyone submitted one? Or been caught out through no fault of their own?? Or more so, is it even worth the while submitting it??

Any comments appreciated before I press the submit button haha :D

If your tax credits and SRCOP are correct on your tax credit cert, then your employer's payroll system will be deducting the correct amount of tax.

If that is the case, and if you have no other income, or any tax reliefs to claim, then there is no point doing a tax return.

If you have other income that is not taxed at source, e.g. rental profits, self-employed income, etc., then you should do a tax return.

Or you may wish to claim tax relief on med expenses, etc.

The P21 Balancing statement is issued by Revenue after you submit a tax return or make a claim.
