I'd would really appreciate any thoughts/advice on this car.

Looking for a saloon car, less than E2500, enough boot space to lug about all the baby stuff, something that aint to expensive to run and that will last a couple of years without too much trouble. This seems to fit the bill, but fully open to advice/suggestions

you would get an 04 avensis for that money and it will do better than 34mpg

Megane's of that generation have well documented cases of numerous electrical problems. They are hit and miss and I would not fancy my chances with a 9 year old one.

Also while saloons may have a decent size boot, access to it can be limited whereas a hatchback has a wider opening and easier access to the boot.

Skoda Octavia will be the one to match your needs start off at 1.4litre upwards.

You would fit 2 bodies in the boot and some.

Also, avoid Renault diesels of that age. If you research reliability surveys, French cars in general do not do well. Sp aged French cars are a considerable gamble.
I had a 2004 Megane diesel. I replaced the main ECU twice, €600 + labour each time. The fuel injection system failed costing 3.5k to repair. I got rid having learned my lesson. I should have listened, it broke my financially and psychologically.
