Severe Pms ruining my life

I am a woman in my 40s who has suffered with PMS most of my life. As I've gotten older, it's gotten worse. I was diagnosed with depression about 2yrs ago and prescribed anti-ds. I have since come off these (they didn't do me any favours) and although they made me feel slightly more sane at certain times of the month, they were disagreeing with me in other ways.

Anyway, I have been to my GP over the years...it's never specifically been about PMS - I've always mentioned it, but my appointment would be about something else and inevitably, I got a diagnosis of depression.

I've been keeping a diary for almost 18 months now and can pin-point the exact day that the irritability begins, my mood drops, I become angry, aggressive and completely intolerant of everyone and everything around me etc. I am in a relationship for the past 2yrs and these moods are really destroying what we have. I turn into a mad-woman once a month, and I hate myself for it.

I feel like my GP won't take me seriously about this issue - I go to a few different doctors at my clinic (depending on my issues at the time), and they have put me on various contraceptives, or anti-ds. I want someone to take me seriously with this issue and I know I can't get a recommendation on boards.ie, but has anyone gotten this issue dealt with in a serious way (rather than just, 'ah heres another pill, you'll be grand'..). Are there clinics/doctors who specialise in this area - would a hysterectomy be what's needed?
I honestly can't live like this anymore, and spend 3 wks of the month dreading my mood for that one week..as does my partner.

OP, you thread asks for medical advice, which we cant give here on boards, so I cant open it.

If you have no luck with your GP, change to a new doctor and ask for a referral to a gynecological specialist. They can assess your situation and tell you what your options are.
