Like to hear from anybody that was on JSA and then went on CE and when finished CE returned to JSA.

    1. What was the process like,
    2. Was it smooth,
    3. Was you claim re-opened or
    4. Did you have to re-apply all over again
    5. Were you back in payment soon

    3.2.21 Return to Live Register

Time spend on Community Employment is disregarded for linking purposes with regards to those who were in receipt of Job Seekers Allowance (JA) immediately prior to commencing the programme. This means that regardless of the duration of CE participation, the JA claim can be re-opened without serving a waiting period, provided the person still meets the criteria for receipt of Jobseekers Allowance.

Contact should be with the original payment section and with the DSP Employment Services on the first day of unemployment.

Above is from DSP 2013 CE Sponsors Manual.

    I have 2 questions:
This means that regardless of the duration of CE participation, the JA claim can be re-opened

Can I use form up6 (Repeat Claim) which normally cover up to 2yrs but my situation is 6yrs.

Contact should be with the original payment section and with the DSP Employment Services on the first day of unemployment.

Does this mean the hatch I used to sign on at or just the general office where my claim is held.

Up1 is the form you will need to complete. Your previous claim will be purged at this stage. You will need to bring in photo ID...passport and drivers licence. Proof of address...recent utility bill in your name. You will need to go to the general office. At this stage you may be entitled to full rate jobsekers benefit depending on your average weekly earnings in the gcy. If you dont qualify for full rate jsb then you will have to go through the means test process again for job seekers allowance as it has been such a long time since your last claim. If you have to wait for a means test then apply for supplementary welfare allowance through your community welfare officer.

You seem to be saying that this (see below) means absolutely nothing even though it's coming from DSP

After 6 years your original claim will be purged and more than likely your means file. Linking doesnt mean you will be put into payment straight away. Linking means you will not have to serve the 3 day waiting period e.g. not being paid for the first 3 days of your claim. In view of that fact that it has been 6 years since your last claim you will have to be means tested. If you had been on jobseekers allowance for the same 6 year period your means would have been reviewed. Someone coming off a CE scheme is normally fast tracked but I would still advise going to cwo and applying for supplementary welfare allowance.

Thanks eastbono for explaining this I understand now what that clause means exactly.

I know I will have to be means tested and have no problems with that, and will have the up1 form pre-filled out and all the documents required.

Thank god I wont require the assistance of the SWA scheme on this occasion:)
