the integration of all the Nokia camera apps into 1. THis is brilliant as far as I am concerned

also, Nokia have announced a couple of imaging goodies, namely enabling RAW output from the pro camera app and a refocus app that allows viewers to change the focus of images after the fact, even when posted to FB etc.

The innovation in imaging by Nokia is really amazing. I hope MS don't f. that up if/when they take over

My two cents is that everything there is lovely but I have to highlight something I've come to dislike about nokia.
No sooner do you get the latest model, do you find out that there is a better one 'coming soon'.
I think nokia should have worked on consolidating the best features into one, 'market friendly' model and really marketed the hell out of it, while making the 925s and 1020s a specialist or limited run.

I know alot of people won't like that concept but it really bothers me how much marketshare nokias imo, better phones are losing to apple, samsung and htc.

Also, does this mean we will see nokia tablets on sale here?

I don't ever recall seeing their laptops before they stopped either.

I think the problem is that they have too many similarly spec'd devices on the market.

Glad to see an official Instagram app coming though.

I agree with Senordingdong to a certain extent, by the time we get the hardware in Ireland, there is always something better announced. The hardware announced yesterday is nice, but fortunately, nothing I'd be interested in (I'd like the tablet, but I doubt I'd get one into the house unnoticed :P).
I think the really interesting stuff announced yesterday was on the software side, with all the new apps coming (although the lack of release dates still p1sses me off - soon is not a date). At some stage, and I think that stage is getting nearer, we will reach a tipping point with regard to major apps and we'll see parity with iOS and Android in terms of having the apps released on or around the same time. What's hurting WP really is the lack of local apps and the reluctance of the companies and banks etc. to commit to the platform.
Back to Nokia and some of their innovations are really good. I love the look of the refocus app and not only the novelty of the refocusing, but also the fact that the refocusing can be done on the images when they are posted to FB, Twitter etc. That will really get the wow factor out of the phones and into the open. Also the inclusion of the pedometer and the notifications in the glance screen. This is really simple stuff, but also very effective.
If apple were doing this stuff you'd never hear the end of it. Instead they give us a thinner ipad. Wow, that sh1t really blew me away. Not.

Quality post Paulie, but the bit at the end there - Gold Star for you my friend! :D

I'm actually surprised myself that WP is taking off in a big way this year and Nokia are making some serious headway in the market now again, especially with the Lumia 920 half the price of the iphone 5, and now it seems it is apple who are having to offer a lower end spec alternative to try and shore up the lack of momentum of the original iphone 5.

I'm half caught myself between a Lumia 520, an 820, and now I see the 920 might just come in under my €250 budget in time for my birthday in a months time! There's nothing wrong with the N8 I have at the moment, but WP8 offers a few features and apps that the N8 just can't do -

    Multiple Exchange accounts
Front camera Skype calls (one of the reasons why I might knock the 520 on the head)
    Viber voice call capability

There's a few more I can't think of off the top of my head right now... :o

Now if only Tango and SlingMedia* would hurry up and get their WP8 apps on the market I'd be a happy bunny! :D

    One and the same.
The 520, 620 and now 625...I think one phone could have filled the role of all three.
The 800 and 900 were barely out before being replaced with the 820 and 920.
All with little differences between them.

Wish Nokia had one flagship phone they could force down the consumers throat like apple and samsung do.

    The 610, 800 and 900 were WP7 devices. The 620, 820 and 920 are WP8 devices, so there's a pretty big difference right there.
The 625 is a larger-screened version of the 620 and is intended for markets like India where large screens are desirable, but it is also a budget model.
In terms of the Irish market, we have the 520, 620, 720, 920/925 and 1020. All other models are derivatives or not imported officially e.g. 521, 625, 720, 928 and now the 1320 (although that might make its way here eventually).
It is true that there is no 'flagship' version. The 925 is probably closest to a flagship for standard users. The 1020 is aimed squarely at photography enthusiasts and the 1520 ? It wouldn't be for me as it's way too big, but in terms of a phablet it looks pretty well specced and the screen looks amazing.
What I cannot understand is how they price these things (phones in general I guess). Nokia, Apple and Samsung all do it. Their highend hones are always about 300 euros dearer than the equivalent tablets. How does that work ? Surely they cost less to manufacture ?

Yeah and no sooner were those released that they were almost obsolete.

Understandable, but if that's the case, I would think the smart move would have been to produce the 625 in bulk for all nations, rather than nation specific models with minor differences.
Surely this bulk production I speak of would lower the overall cost of the handsets making them more appealable.

If I counted correctly, you listed 16 different types of Lumia, and IIRC lumia was first introduced in Nov 2011.
Whereas the iphone was introduced in 2007, with only 7/8 different versions since then.

Seems like nokia did themselves in spending money rather than making it.

I reckon there's 22 models in all in the Lumia range.

Regarding the relatively short life of the 800/900, that wasn't really Nokia's doing. They were late to the WP party and MS were introducing WP8 shortly afterwards.

In any case, I don't mind. I love new stuff and the more and quicker it comes out the better. You mentioned Apple and their lack of models. Obviously they caught everyone else on the hop with the iPhone and they also have a very different model than the other two (Windows/Android) in that it is the same company that develops both the SW and the HW concurrently so you have immediate advantage there over the one OS -> many OEMs model that MS and Google use.
Also, you might notice that the iPhones/iPads are essentially unchanged since they were launched (at least from Apple's side). Sure they have physically changed (slightly). Look what they did yesterday, had a huge launch for a thinner ipad. As I said above, if there was even 1/10 of the innovation from Apple yesterday that we saw from Nokia, the whole internets would be awash with fanboys proclaiming the innovation

Really liking the look of the Lumia tablet, albeit it's just a blown up Lumia phone in terms of its casing. But looks seriously slick. What Nokia and Microsoft need to be doing is including their Keyboard docks as standard with each tablet. It'll really differentiate themselves from competitors, and seeing as MS Office is probably the biggest App for Windows RT, it would be a very strong combo. I really want to like Windows 8 and Microsoft's and Nokia's efforts, but they need to be making a few leaps to seriously contend in the market.

At the price of 150/200 they arent going to do that, if you compared the base price to ipad etc it looks bad then.

I understand that. But a short-term loss can turn into a long-term gain. Bare in mind, these things only cost around $20 to make. Bundle them in, and lock users in from the early generations of the Lumia/Surface. And keep them coming back for further generations. Better than writing off the unsold stock in my book, ala Mocrosft with the Surface.

Nokia have a lot of phones coming out in a quick cycle, as they try to get to all sectors of the market and trying to find the magic mix that will hit the big time. The Lumia 520 is a great way to get Windows Phone out to everyone, as it's so cheap and performance is great. The 1020 is one for the camera enthusiasts. The 720/820 are good for mid-range and the 920 (with it's current price it's a steal) is a good high-mid-range.

The number of different models isn't as important as the volume they sell (at the last count on the Samsung site, I counted 35 different Galaxy phones) as long as they're not left with a ton of excess stock of the ones that don't sell as well (although they seem to do a good job of cutting prices to ensure that this doesn't happen - the 920 is now about €300).

The 1520 is the one to go for, had some time with it along with the rest.
To give a comparison say with the note 3 the 1520 1320 are bigger.
The HTC one max again also bigger, similar size to the 1520 will post some photos over the next few days.
On a good note the new ashas, one or two will be hitting Ireland which will target the younger audience, they are notably faster than the 501 which never made it here.
The 2520 is nice having had the surface range of tabs this is a better offering, tabs are not my main interest but yes I'll be having one of these.

Anymore questions ask away and any info I get between now and release I will post. There is stuff I can't post just yet.

    @jimmynokia

With the sale of Nokia Devices division coming up I don't think there will be many more Nokia Lumia announcements. So 5" 1520 is probably never gonna happen. So how's the 1520 as an everyday phone? Everything about the 1520 looks awesome but I think it might be too big. I'm using a 520 right now and while it's the biggest screened phone I ever had I'm getting increasingly frustrated with the size of the keyboard.

    1. Size: Would it comfortably fit in jeans pocket? (1520)
    2. Wireless Charging: Is wireless charging built into the worldwide version or is that a carrier exclusive? (1520/2520)
    3. Release date: What's the likelihood Ireland could see it before Christmas? (1520/2520)

I don't know if it's just me but pictures aren't showing up. Any chance you could post a link to them or something?

Thanks. 1520 is looking like a definite buy for me! Can't wait for release

I have interest growing in the 2520.

Seems like a sweet tablet. Enough apps out there as far as I'm concerned. Though I assume it didn't offer expendable memory option rich is a bit of a bummer as I'd like to load up some videos and watch it while traveling.

Samsung android tablets do all I want, but they just look **** and specs are terrible.
