2nd opinion dilemma - Clinics completely contradicting each other

One clinic, Optilase, advised me that while I was near the threshold, I am absolutely suitable for laser. I was told that my cornea was more than thick enough for it to be safe to do it.

Fast forward a couple of weeks when I go to another clinic, where my mother had her laser done, to get a second opinion.

The second clinic, Optical Express did the same tests, as far as I could tell, but came to a completely different conclusion.

They reckoned that the thickness of the eye was nowhere near sufficient to carry out laser and that an implantable contact lens (ICL) was the way to go. More expensive certainly, but my only real option.

The first place only does laser, the second place seems to pretty much do the whole range of stuff.

The ICL comes in at about 5k. If the advice I've gotten from them is actually sound, I would be more than happy to go with it, as the procedure is reversible and it is possible to do minor tweaking with laser if the ICL is not 100% perfect if my sight changes substantially in the near future.

Stating the obvious, but eyes are important and having terrible eyesight since I was a young child, I'm probably more aware of that than most, or at least think about it a lot more.

Even if a third opinion, which I will now look for, agress with Optical Express, I'm still quite worried...

Anyone else have clinics substantially disagree with each other?

I went to two clinics - Optilase and Wellington and was offered 2 different treatment 'solutions'.

Optilase were much less thorough than the Wellington (I was in and out in 45 mins in Optilase, 2.5 hours for Wellington and got to meet the consultant too). The Wellington suggested a much more conservative treatment and I felt they took factors such as my job and age into consideration whereas Optilase were more like 'Ah yeah you'd be grand sure'.

I'd never to back to Optilase after the experience I had in the Wellington - worth paying the 100 euro consultation when it's your only set of eyes at stake.

Going to get another consultation, possibly with Wellington or the place in or beside the Eye and Ear Hosp.

Really, I want to get two consultants to agree with each other before I even think about making a final decision.

Just disregard those places and go to the Wellington or the Mater.

The price with optical express is more than what I was hoping for, €5k after tax back.

Wellington and Mater would be more expensive again. Optical Express seem to be pretty good. I don't know really yet, I have to get another opinion and do some more research.
