Central locking on my car won't work?

    Hi there,
I bought a second hand 03 clio yesterday.
It's immaculate, but the thing is, the central locking doesn't quite work on it.

When I press the button on the key, it will lock the doors, but if I press it again, the locks make a noise, but don't open?!?!
The button inside the car locks and unlocks the doors no problem. I have tried putting the key right up to the dashboard and pressing it but it still doesn't work :( Anyone know what could be wrong or how to fix it?

Please help me as I don't know much about cars at all and don't have much money for repairs :(

    Thanks so much.

Will the key open everything if you use that instead in the door lock?
Since the button inside locks/unlocks the doors it doesn't seem to be the central locking itself. Do you have a second fob?

    Hi Biko,
Well, the car was made in France so the lock on the car is on the passenger side.
When I unlock the car with the key in the door, it will only unlock the passenger door, then I have to reach into the car and press the button to open all the doors and then walk back around to the drivers side to get in the car.
I only got one key with the car, when I press the fob, the little LED lights up and it will lock all the doors, but it just won't open them?:(

    Any ideas?

    Many thanks

Possibly you will need to reset the fob. To reset it you get in the car, shut the doors. Then hold the central locking lock all button down until the doors lock and unlock, takes about 5-10 sec.
Then wait a minute or so and try fob again to lock/unlock.

I have tried that but it doesn't do that on my car. My Clio is an 03 16v Renault clio, any other ways?:(

Possibly the mechanism isn't working right.
You can try taking the door cards off and lubricating the mechanism*

    *wild guess
