I see the sligo sar chopper call outs are up over 70% this year so far. Is there any reason for this increase ? Its seams to be a big jump.

They have increased the variety of stuff they can be called for and the S92 is more capable I.e longer range

Hi Roadmaster, the new S92 based in Sligo is capable of much better performance compared to the older S61n which retired in July. This allows this aircraft to carry out missions for the HSE transporting carrdic casualties to centres of excellance in Galway and Dublin. The better engine performance allows the casuties to picked up from GAA pitches or hospital Helipads or a field at the side of the road. This means a life saving flight for people in Donegal or Mayo who need to be in Hosp within 90 mins.

Also this summer has been an extremely busy one for the Irish Coast Guard in general, actually 2013 will be the busiest year ever for the Coast Guard.

When chc tendered for the service would they have allowed for such a increase since the helicopters can carry out more roles?

Well it wasn't long ago; 2010 IIRC that we offered CHC a €500 million contract, not that we can afford that but at least we are getting our monies worth.
