I will be moving into this house soon.

Could you guys help me identify what the components are in the hotpress?

A few shutoff valves and some new items numbered in the picture..

    Thanks

1 cold feed to somewhere. ( shower I'd say )
    2 cold feed to bathrooms
    3 central heating filler valve
4 TCV. It controls the hot water temp in cylinder
    5 zone valve to radiators
6 balance valve. Close fully and open one full turn
There's probably another valve to the right in the hot press. That one will be your hot water shut off valve

Unless there is an automatic bypass valve on your system, remove the head of the TCV. Better still, replace with a motorised valve, interlocked with a cylinder stat & the boiler.

Why control the cylinder temp, would adjusting the temp on the gas boiler not do the same thing?

Zone valve - I take it this lets me close off the feed to the upstairs rads remotely? There must be a switch somewhere downstairs.

What would this do for me? better control of the cylinder temp?

For example, in the summer you have the boiler heating the cylinder only. The TCV switches off the flow to the cylinder when it reaches temperature. The boiler pump is now pumping against a closed circuit, damaging the pump & possibly the boiler.
If installed correctly, via a motorised valve, an automatic bypass valve (for safety) & a cylinder thermostat, the boiler will be switched off electrically when the cylinder reaches the set temperature point. Saves energy & fuel.

thats a nice job. do you know your ber will be effected by the colour of the insulation. paint that cylinder blue

you could do with some insulation on the pipework as it leaves the cylinder
