recommended idle time for mobile broadband

So when i explored the settings on my Hotshot mobile broadband modem, I discovered that my Max Idle Time is set to 600 sec, and that "The Broadband Hotshot will disconnect from the internet when the idle time exceeds the ‘Max Idle Time".

600 sec seems a bit short to me, while i appreciate that it probably helps me save on my bandwidth limits, would this have something to do with the fact that my internet often loses connectivity?

To resolve this problem, I usually plug out and plug back in my Wireless USB adapter. Or my adapter just faulty? (Which is what i suspect)
