    Hi all,

So I got offered a JB internship. I am on the casual jobseekers and I went to my local office and they said I am eligible etc.

What I was wondering is (as the guy in the office couldn't tell me and just told me to go to the website), what is the next step.... how do I go about it? I rang the host organisation but this is they're first time putting someone on JB and he said he didn't know a whole lot about it.

I didn't get any help what so ever down in my local office.

    It says this
Note: This is ONLY a guide. You must visit your local social welfare office or in the case of those in receipt of Disability Allowance post the relevant forms to social welfare services to confirm your eligibility if you are selected by a host organisation as a potential intern.

On the website., I was of the idea that if you get offered a job bridge internship you go back to the Social welfare office and they sort it out?

The host company need to send you an eligibility form that you get stamped in the SW office and is then sent onto job bridge by the SW office. The host company should be able to download the form and fill out the necessary bits before they send it onto you. You'll need your bank details for the SW office as well. When job bridge process it they contact the host company to let them know you can start. Once this happens I think you sign off, you can do this online. Overall it should take about a week.

Me too, but I went down and they weren't too helpful.

Yeah I rang the guy who is giving me the internship, but he said this is his first time putting someone on JB so he wasn't sure what exactly was to be done.

I may ring him tomorrow and let him know there will be bits his end (most of it by the looks - am I correct?).

He just has to print off the form and fill it out, it's fairly short. (When a host company advertises an internship on the job bridge website, they then have an online job bridge account, and he should be able to get the form from there.) Once that's done he gives it to you and you bring it to the SW office.

Thanks. Sounds simple enough so, I was getting worried that there would be a big rigmarole and it would take ages etc.

Will ring him tomorrow anyway just to make sure everything is A1.

    Thanks again!

Surprised hes taking on someone as a intern and not looked carefully into it himself.

Just know that you can be two weeks in the 'job' before you get your top-up €50 extra from the social. Surprise, surprise!

All I'm saying is budget accordingly, like everything else to do with the government, don't be depending on it straight away.

    Best of luck

I was told it is 3 weeks. I think it is usually 3 - 4 weeks but truth-bent "advised" that it will be 2 weeks. It may differ in different areas but from what I gather, money has to be collected from your Post Office for the first couple of weeks and will go into the Bank then after that.

From my experience, full payment went straight into my bank account the first week. No delays, just make sure SW have your bank details and start date.
