I'm looking to move to new irons with more feel and these are top of my list (I think !). Had a few hits of a demo 7 iron yesterday and it went well.

I currently have Ping G10s, and whilst they are fine overall, they can be lacking in distance and the ball flight can be quite high at times. However I do like Ping products and would prefer to stay with this manufacturer.

I play off 5 (I was playing off 11 when I giot the G10s 5yrs ago) and think I could get away with a less forgiving club now. This also might require me to modify how I play iron shots which might take some time getting used to.

The main point is that I really want to be sure that I would be making the right move before splashing the cash - new irons would be a major expense for me.

Anyone play with these clubs ?

    i have them in combo, 5-pw s56, 2-4 mizuno mp fli-hi.
really nice irons. not butterknives but nice feel.
i dont think youd need to modify the way you play to use them but that all depends on how you play i suppose :)

    cheers fellas,

some decent 2nd hand sets available Adverts & Done Deal

might look into these as the full retail price is a bit scary :)

Just a quick warning on the distance. You have g10's now and they will be lofted a tad stronger than s56's with more weight low and behind. So they will go higher and longer all things being equal. The s56's will/might play a half club shorter. It'll be more noticeable in the longer irons too.

Another possibility is to go for the i range of irons, they seem to be the irons separating the G and the S range. I have i10's myself and love them. Really solid feel off them, lovely ball flight. Before my i10's I had Ping ISI-k's, old irons which kinda were similar to the G10. On moving to the i10's, I really had more feel with my irons.
The S56's are that next level up again, and if you're playing off 5 you can probably well handle that class of iron.
If you'd like to save a bit of cash, you can probably get a very decent set 2nd hand on Donedeal/Adverts etc for a fraction of the cost. I got my i10's for about a third of their new value, and they're going to last me for a good few years to come.

Edit - just had a quick look on adverts - there's 4 sets of Ping S range clubs there, ranging between €145 and €400. Why pay €800 for a new set?
