    Hi Guys,

First time trying to organise a ski holiday and Im finding it difficult to get self catering/apartment accomodation for a group of 16 people in Soll, in February.

When I go through the agencies they say they they either locate us on arrival, or they dont organise self catering.

    Help appreciated!! :)

Hi Fichilli! Have you tried contacting the tourist board directly? They can be really helpful with a big group like that, here's the link http://www.wilderkaiser.info/en/soell.html. There's also a map of the village on the site so you can see where the accommodations are located.

    Hope that helps! :-)

    +1 what he said
just tell them what you want and and they normally just send you a list of suitable accomodation have a good time they really are very good

I would also advise to avoid the school holidays I have forgotten when they are:o

    Heyyy, SHE lol! Sheesh ;-)

Sounds like they may have already booked, but first 2 weeks of Feb should be fine. Don't panic if you've booked in the second two, it just means busier lifts but you'll get over it :-)

Weve booked the sportmayr hotell.266 for a week(11 jan to 18 jan)double room b&b.cENTERAL and trip advisor ratings all check out ok.Weve gone diy this year and are flying dublin to Munich (180 return) and taxi to soll 86 return. In soll for 540 just have to organise lift pass and gear hire.Whole trip should cost about 850.Happy with that

Good prices on flights & transfers there Mahoney! And the Sportmayr is nice and central. Just one tip, put your gear in the Edinger garage directly under the Gondola station. There is one at the bottom of the hill that's full of Irish & English people on ski packages but its a pain in the ass having to walk or bus it to the gondola with your gear. Don't follow them in! ;)

You can rent gear in Sportmayr, Mahoney_j! Or alternatively you can rent it all in the same Edinger garage I mentioned above. It's literally under the gondola so it'd be handy for changing gear if you had any issues with boots or skis.

Re: Soll's reputation- I think you'll be pleasantly surprised when you experience it for yourself! You've chosen a good time to go, conditions should be good and it won't be so busy. Apres ski is great craic, and it suits what you said you like- a few early beers, then dinner & bed. The mentalness starts around 10pm so you can avoid it altogether once you're in the dinner zone by then, it won't bother you! And it's really casual- changing clothes is pretty much a waste of time :-)

Re: Kitzbuhel/ Westendorf- two good days skiing in these, I presume you mean doing them on seperate days? It takes time to get to Westendorf, if you want to buy yourself a couple of extra hours in Kitzbuhel you could consider taking a taxi from Soll to Westendorf on that day, then skiing from there to Kitzbuhel and back to Soll via Brixen.

And finally yes, buy your lift pass when you get there. It's no hassle :-)

    Hope that makes sense!

Wouldn't bother with a taxi from Soll to Westendorf, you could ski there amost as quick.
Indeed you could ski onward to Kitzbuhel from Westendorf too (requires one short 10 minute bus transfer, bus usually waiting at bottom of piste to whisk you across the valley yo the Kitzbuhel lift). Ski to Kitzbuhel and you can get the train back to Brixen (not included in liftpass) and from there ski back to Soll.
Another daytrip possible is to get the postbus from Soll to St. Johann, smallish ski area but plenty to keep you going for one day.
Make sure to buy the Salzburg area skipass if you plan to visit Kitzbuhel or St. Johann, the skiwelt one will not cover you.

Yeah that's what I meant, sorry! Taxi then bus to Kitzbuhel. Otherwise its complicated off-piste to get back- unless that's what you want of course! ;)

It takes about 90 mins to ski Soll to Westendorf, or 20 mins in a taxi.

The other advantage to Taxiing is that you can be in Westendorf ready to start from there when the lifts open, instead of starting from Soll at that time. Buys you more time on the Kitzbuhel side :)
