I think my freezer has had it!

I have a large fridge freezer (freezer is the biggest part) which started making a very loud whining sound this evening. I pulled it out and unplugged it and plugged it back in again. Now there's not a peep out of it and I think the motor is gone. The light is working in the fridge but the freezer is completely silent.

Would it be worth my while to get someone to out to have a look at it? I don't know how much a new motor would cost me (it's a Beko) or whether I should just buy a new one. Any advice?

Feel free to PM me any recommendations for an engineer. I'm in Dublin 8.

Thanks, checked the serial number and it's not one of the affected models. Ours is a later one. In the meantime it seems to have come back to life! There was a kind of a knocking sound and the motor is back on now! No idea what happened :o

Can't help with the noise but if you turn off a fridge/freezer and turn it back on within 10/20 seconds the thermal trip on the compressor will trip and it will appear dead, once cooled down the trip will reset itself and the compressor will again spring back to life.
