been lurking around here for a while and finally have a question that I couldn't find the answer to that is can I claim back the vat on an electric fencer
as I am in the process of putting an electric fence around the bounds and hopefully going to all paddocks as previously I only use them for the cattle
suckler cows and sheep were block grazed water usually being the biggest problem which will cost a bit to rectify so every penny counts
so hopefully can get the vat back on wire stakes insulators and fencer

A good fencer is money well spent. I bought a Gallagher a few years ago €1300 never regretted it. It even came with a gadget to switch it o or off from the field

Agree. Get the biggest fencer that you can legally buy. 30 joules output I think. Best money you will ever spend on the farm.

i went for the Gallagher 5000 costing 1350 also has the gadget to switch it on or off so hopefully it will be the business
it would be great if I could get vat back for roadways as I have some put in as well but unfortunately I have my own digger and will be digging the road surfacing for them

Make sure you follow the recommendations for the earth system.
The earth is half your fence system!

I put in seven 2m rods this summer for our 25 joule fencer.
Some fair crack off of it now!!!

yes thats the one nearly fell of the chair when I saw the price
I will be calling them in the morning

Possibly a mistake though as it's only €60 more that the nearest model

Edit: Having looked at a few other prices on the net, it looks like it's almost certainly a mistake (or somebody's ripping us all off). Sorry for giving you a fright

I ordered one from the local co.op on friday evening they will be hearing about it if that is the correct price just seems odd that there is only €60 between a 25 jewel and 50 jewel

They seem very expensive,i bought a Cheta G303 for €706 in co-op in thurles, great yoke,30 joules, will do up to 90 miles of wire,im getting 12000 v and have 70 acres fenced so far, burns off all grass and weeds that touch it!

i am not overly impressed with the Cheta as I have three of them one battery and 2 mains the smaller off the 2 is by far the best fencer. i suspected there was something wrong with bigger one for the last few years but they couldn't fix it. but it is dead now transformer looks to be melted on one side think it was the next one down from the 303

What you really need is an old Elephant fencer.

Best one we have ever had and has been wiped out by lightning once as well :(

Have a Gallagher here as well and its hopeless - so much so instead of two fencers we are running the whole show with the Elephant with some additional wires across lanes.

I'd say our one is closer to 30 years old.

If I was buying new, I'd be buying a Cheeta next time as heard lots of good reports on them.

IN THEORY U FENCER HAS TO BE PERMANENT FIXTURE
CAN NOT BE MOVED --WIRED IN NOT WITH A PLUG

Agree nashmach they are super fencers. Although I would recommend that anyone buying an expensive fencer to ensure that it is encased in a secure box bolted to the wall. A friend had a expensive Elephant fencer robbed from an out farm a few years ago.
Here is a link to the Elephant website http://www.elephant.as/index.php
Also if you click on distributors there are two listed in Ireland.
We have two Cheeta's here, one is 30 yo and the other is about 15 yo. Both still working as good as the day that they were bought.
