Seen a lot of info on the net re these , both for the trainee ones and the qualified ones .
Is there anyone around the Galway city area that would chat to me about getting in to this and what you need to do ,
Im fully up to date on all aircraft types , and have thousands of Pics on file to prove it , mostly , Coast guard and Air ambulance since the Airport closed down .

Ive loads and loads of pics from the salthill air shows that I can chat and show as well .

Ive also Military experience , local RDF ,

I would love to chat about what I can do to fulfill my dreams ,

Take a look at the Aer Lingus careers page. They have video clips of nearly every role you can get in AL and the pilot one tells you the ins and outs of training. With all due respect having photos of planes isn't going to be much help in getting a job, it does show that you have an interest in aviation but that's only a small part they look for when recruiting cadets/pilots.

Pprune is a good site to get info on the types of training you can do and places to do it.

    Good luck

Thanks for your advice and guidance on this , I was kinda hoping that I could talk to some one " off the record" as such re this career path .
Ive tried to get into the Irish Air Corps on numerous occasions and been turned down ,
Ive campaigned strongly that they should recruit pilots from enlisted men and Ncos but they just wont listen ,

I do know that I have some background issues the could be detrimental to my application , thbats why I wanted to try to have an honest and frank chat about it first .

Meeting someone face to face is so much better than some computer based application system telling you you cant apply ,

All I know is that I have a real passion for things aviation , If I got a chance I could prove it , I need to fly ,
At the moment all I can do is to take as many photos of planes as i can and put them up on every website I can , surely someone will see me for what i am and give me the dream shot .

The simple answer to that is no....

If you want to be a pilot you have to do 99% of the work yourself and you cannot rely on anyone to give you anything. It takes a lot of hard work, blood sweat and tears and many sleepless nights and stress filled days. It's also not for everyone. It can be stressful and terrifying in equal measure and you really have to know what you are getting into before you take the plunge.
In the interests of not BSing you I will just come out and say what I'd imagine many are thinking....you dont seem to have a realistic view of aviation and what is involved in getting on to the flight deck.

We all dreamed of being pilots as kids but those of us who got there can testify to the fact that it is nothing like we thought it would be back then. The dream is to fly a nice sleek jet to far off places...but the reality is "we're late we need to make up time on this sector....oh wait now we have to hold because there is an issue at the destination airfield but we only have enough fuel to hold for another 10 mins and then we'll have to divert and **** it we were supposed to be making up time on this leg!!...and now Ops are talking to us as if it's our fault there was an issue at the destination....oh and now we have an engine fire...better get the fire drill done quick....can we get to our alternate on one engine now?...**** better get into the tables and find out...wow it will be close but we should get there...but we wont have the luxury of a go around...this really isnt the job I dreamed of as a boy...it's a lot more stressful and I get paid a lot less than I should for doing this ****....."

Obviously all the above are not likely to happen at once(until you get in to the air and they do) but that is the reality of flying commercial jets...it's all time schedules and profit margins and you are under pressure all the time to keep the show running smoothly and as I said above nobody will give you anything....when it hits the fan it's you, your mate(assuming he's not the component that's failed) and the paying customers all locked up in a tube and the spotlight is on you to keep it all calm and positive on the intercom even if what is going on in your head is far from that!

I would never want to do any other job...I love my job...but like I said, it's not what many people think it is and it's not for everyone!

surely this whole pilot thing, the way it is set up at present is being set up only for the elite .

Ive made my views on this known before re the way the IAC take on pilots ,
Why do the ncos and the enlisted men not fly the planes and choppers ? and leave the officers to do what they do best ,

I have tried so many times to apply to the Ac and have been turned down on every occasion , always at the first hurdle .

How do they know from not even entertaining my application that I would not be a brilliant pilot ,
My knowledge of aviation is second to none , I can fly commercial aircraft to exacting standards on flight sim .
All I want now is to go to the National Airline and live out my fantasies ,
Just Taking photos and writing about aircraft is no longer satisfying for me I have to do the real thing ,
I could raise the 25 k no problem , ive spoken to the credit union and they have not said no ,
All I want is a chance to prove myself , eeven if a selection board could wathch me on flight sim they would hire me straight away ,

I really dont want to be sarcastic here because I understand the passion and frustration of wanting to do something but getting turned down..however.....are you serious?

Flying a jet is a whole world away from flight sim!

Well thats what i do best at the moment , Im just waiting for the next big event in aviation to happen here , no more airshows and coastguard demos till next year really .

Just Taking pics and reporting on the CG and Air ambulance is now getting a bit boring ,
I ready to move at a minutes notice to cover anything , My contacts will be looking after me in that regard.

    Hopperdavy,

If you want to be a Commercial Airline Pilot, then go and start saving the funds, it's all down to you. Or as already mentioned above, check out the British Airways Future Pilot Programe thread on PPRuNe. I'm not sure what the story is on the Aerlingus Pilot Scheme!

So flying a flight sim will get you into any airline hmmmm REALLY?

That's news to all the pilot's that worked their asses off in college and the money they spent getting there.
Good luck in your future career of flight sim and walking into an Airline.

Im off to see what troll you resemble and I have banned before.

Locked for now if you feel the need for this thread to be unlocked please pm me.
