Anyone there working in computer forensics or with law enforcement be able to tell me how long Eircomm hoild on to email records for .?

I cant ring them up myself as i might incriminate myself .

Some one told me that after 3 years they are wiped out and the Gardai cant do anything to get them .

Is this true or are they held longer , Ive an eircomm line and internet and eircomm email address.

    http://www.dataprotection.ie/ViewDoc.asp?fn=/documents/register/display.asp?ID=0477%2FV

no idea how old that is but it lists their data retention policies and how long each policy lasts and its valid until 2014.

    from the link:
E-mail e-mail username, email size, password, encrypted password, contact details, marketing consent (mailing list consent). Time/IP address of each connection and successful login connection, time of closure. Message I.D. of each message sent (To & from field only) e-mail content, including attachment content, is inaccessible on eircom's server due to security restrictions. e-mail size assists in legitimate account administration. No record attachment file types or sizes is retained.

    with a duration of :
Customer billing information for voice services is not available to customers after two years and 12 months for Internet Data as required by the Communications (Retention of Data) Act 2011 or such other order as shall be issued by a competent authority

this is, of course, a non-legal opinion. best bet for that would be to ask a solicitor or get someone else to ring eircom on your behalf. (oh, and I assume its an eircom.net / eircom.ie email address you are talking about and not just an email website accessed through the eircom as an ISP ?)

    I wouldn't be too concerned.
They simply don't have have the money and resources to comply.

It costs money to put proper monitoring facilities in place, it costs money to store the data collected. It costs even more money to store that data for extended lengths of time for hundreds of thousands of people and millions/billions/.. of emails over the past few years... And to query or analyse it.

Worry about the recent past, don't worry about the distant past.
DO worry about the metadata other organisations may hold on you, no matter how long.
