Sprite The Best Hangover Cure?

I was listening to Henry McKean Saturday morning on Newstalk and a piece he ran dealt with Hangover cures. According to a Chinese laboratory Sprite is the most effective cure for hangovers. This Chinese institute after research found that Sprite increased the speed of the two liver enzymes that reduce the amount of the toxic chemical acetaldehyde. The chemical produced when we break down alcohol.

On McKeans show two experts from TCD shot down this as nonsense, there is no cure for a hangover unless you stay drunk 24/7, the body has to eventually go to the next stage of the breakdown. The so called 'cure' (having one or two the morning after) for eg only staves off the process. I wonder did money pass hands between that Chinese facility and Coca Cola ( Owners of the Sprite brand)

Ever tried dioralyte? It's used for of you have the runs and are deydrated.

It replaces the salts and that stuff in your body. Can buy it down the chemist very very cheaply.

It's great. I try have one when I come home.

Yes they mentioned the brain becoming dehydrated leading to headaches. Rest and water and see it out, That's what the two TCD professors advised. There's no quick fix, apart from not drinking to excess of course. :pac:

Not running - too much violent jerking and bouncing. A good bike ride is better for me. Cycle away from home as far as I can until i'm just wrecked, and then after a rest, I've no choice but to cycle back home.

a pint of water with a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of sugar will do the same thing.

Also, did the researchers never hear of boiled 7-Up and a kiss? It cures everything. :)

Is there a difference between 7up and Sprite? Interestingly Pepsi own the rights to 7up, when CC own Sprite.

A can of coke and a banana. Bananas have potassium which reduces the effect of a hangover apparently.

Pint of water with plenty of fresh lemon juice in it before you go to bed.
Guaranteed to work. Prevents dehydration (needed for toxins washout and stuff like that)
If you missed that part then next morning (or lunchtime or whenever you open your eyes) plenty of water and acid that steps up liver function- orange juice, tomato juice, sauerkraut - whatever.
Adding in your menu other ingredients like sugars or fats may extend hangover period as you just pressurising your liver and kidneys to work harder.
    And
    SEXIS A GREAT HANGOVER CURE

The funny thing is, 7up is ethanol based, imagine that.

Like other species that are about to die sex is extra enjoyable. Jelly fish do it. Your body has been poisioned and as an emergency measure your body rewards you more for the sake of the species as it thinks this could be your last. A cure - no. Pleasurable - yes.

I've heard that orange juice etc pits more strain on the liver.

I do like an irish breakfast.

Lots of things make you feel a bit better like a good surgery soft drink, a fry or a breakfast roll, big mug of tea and a bag of meanies et or a getting into a swimming pool (only while you are in the water though).

The only real cure though is "the cure" i.e. have a few more drinks. Despite it saying in the op that it just puts off the hangover from lots of experience I disagree, if you can limit it to a few bottles, pints or vodkas even a very bad hangover is gotten over much easier. The biggest problem is stopping after the few and not ending up on it for the day thus making a new hangover for the following day.

I have been told that leaving said sprite/7up in can till the gas goes out of it will help cure most hangovers ??

That's what I did for years until getting rid of the hangover wasn't the problem,it was the stopping, that took me quite a few years to do that...

I rarely suffer from hangovers, but when I do get one. A big fry up sorts me out for the day.

I always find fryups have the opposite for me. The salty nature of the meal only compounds the bodies ordeal. The extra energy might keep you fresh for a couple of hours but you've got to pay some time.

Lucozade, kiwi fruits, and brown bread will cure what ails ya.

One mans cure is another mans poison. Amazing how everyone reacts so differently to a hang over. I would rarely eat a fry, but when the hangover strikes, my body craves it.

    Bollox

Nope, I don't get hungover. If I drink an absolutely crazy amount I'll wake up feeling crap, 5 minutes after I've adjusted I'm perfect again.

Went on a stag in the summer that ended at 6 in the morning, the rest of the lads were dying and headed to bed early the following day, I went to bed at my usual time without an issue.

Some people just aren't affected by the side effects of drink, I'm one of them.

That's a bit of a double edged sword there..
