Have 40 acres and looking at the options for it am down to either cattle or tillage. Any views appreciated in terms of new cap coming down the track?

for an easy life and no huge capital outlay I would suggest getting into a share farm arrangement. you provide the land farmer provides machinery and you work out a ratio on dividing the proceeds from harvest.it gives you a good operator to farm your land and gives the farmer a chance to expand without paying mad rents. neither will get rich but neither will go broke.

New CAP will be area based so enterprise will be irrelevant based on what is known at this stage.
