407 engine emissions light

Was on the motorway today when the Engine Emissions light came on in my peugeot 407 1.6 hdi. The car went down on power immediately and there is now little or no acceleration in 4th and 5th gears. Does anyone know what the cause might be and how much it will cost to fix?

Could be a fuel filter that needs replacing.

What mileage is on the car? Peugeot diesels have an ELOYS additive that needs to be topped up at approx 90,000 miles but could be earlier.

15000kms on the clock. Hope it is something simple dont want to have to spend much money. Would it be best bet to bring to main dealer or would garage be able to check?

Without getting the fault codes from the car's ECU read then it could be a number of things. Reading the fault codes will give you an indication of where the problem is.

Do you do a lot of short stop/start journey's?

Similar happened to me before in 307 HDI - it was a fuel pressure switch - think it was 180 or so to replace.
