Passive & PHPP Advisor - when to involve?

After many months of trying, we have finally managed to get the keys of our house.

It's a 60s bungalow with basement and needs major renovation - new windows, insulation, extensive roof remediation, etc.

I want to achieve as much energy efficiency as possible and will aim to be passive standard if possible. Obviously, I am very confused with the numerous options out there.

So my question is - I plan to involve an energy/passive consultant in the build - but at what stage do I bring him/her in to consultant, complete the PHPP & condensation risk assessment? We are planning on making some structural changes (Glass walls, merging rooms, vaulted ceilings, etc.) which in my mind would impact energy efficiency, solar gain, etc. A friend of mine will act as architect on the project but we haven't kicked off the design yet. So should we wait until the design is finished before pulling the consultant in - or do we involve them from the very start? I don't want them focusing on aspects that are totally changing anyway.

    Thanks guys for any input.

    IMO, at the very start.

    Agree

at the very beginning - work out what you have to do before you start doing it

Thanks guys for the feedback - thought as much but didn't want to come across a bit premature!

On a related note, can anyone recommend someone that would cover the Sligo area? I have a few names, but no recommendations - good or bad on any of them.

    Thanks.
