I've been using Rory's Story Cubes with my class recently, find them great. They're good for all ages, and levels (academically and in terms of English language). Fantastic for building up oral language skills and imagination (leading to great creative writing) and encouraging groupwork.

When you say games do you mean board games? What classes? Will someone be teaching them how to play the games?

    What about the sudoko games?
Would these be out of the question http://www.prim-ed.com/webshop/Literacy/Problem-Solving/Literacy-Perplexors ? PrimEd also do "Brain snack " cards that our more able children LOVE. The Dingbats game is good fun and makes children think! Outside the Box have some good bits and pieces too. They are based between Newbridge and Naas and would be worth calling to, before you invest. http://www.otb.ie/index.php/component/virtuemart/search?keyword=games&limitstart=0&option=com_virtuemart&view=category

If you are near Outside the Box, the tiny Well- Red (not a typo!)is worth a rootle.

BrainBox Memory Training Games are great fun, I know some schools have them for 'rainy day' activities. There are lots of different titles from Ireland, Maths, Inventions, Horrible Histories to Fairies, Teddy Bears, Art, Football... and lots more. Might be worth a look!

We were encouraged to use snakes and ladders and the classic board games during our maths self assessment. Great for problem solving practice.
