Hi I'm looking for 205/55/17 tyres. Starfire were recommended. Any idea on how reliable they are?

Not heard of them and a Google of them brings up very few hits, maybe go with something like Kumho, budget brand that gets decent reviews?

Never heard of them either. Who recommended them? A friend or a seller?
    What price were you quoted?

Lifetime warranty offered on them in first stop tyres. Apparently they come from Bridgestone chain

All depends what you ask of a tyre IMO. Do want some thing cheap for doing the shopping or do you tend do drive a car fast on wet back roads. Lifetime warranty has no bearing on the grip/performance of a tyre.

It's tempting to save money on a tyre but it's more expensice to pull your car out of a ditch. I've continental tyres on mine. There performance is generally good (quiter and better handling than other tyres I've had) but I'm pretty sure I got my moneys worth when they prevented a write off with an unmarked sneaky humback bridge late one night last summer.

Have you check out prices online. Camskill.co.uk and eiretyes are worth a look.

Funny they mention the warranty but not the Bridgestone bit. Probably because Starfire is a brand of Cooper and Bridgestones budget cousins are Firestone.
They must have a massive markup on them.
You come back with 5mm, they give you 50% off a possibly inflated (no pun intended) retail price and add on cost for a new valve and fitting.

Now the interesting thing is that fast fit say
When purchasing tyres, it is very important to do some research about the tyres. Safety is by far the number one concern when buying car tyres. After putting Starfire Tires and 5 other brands to the test the results from the tests clearly show how Starfire tyres compare.

That's reassuring that they've tested them, then I was thinking.. What testing equipment would they have??
Luckily I then realised they just copied and pasted that from Starfire's website.

Check out Matador MP 46 Hectorra 2
I got them for my 06 Legacy
    very good reviews
    cheap at €120 per corner

€120 a corner isnt really cheap for a brand that wouldnt exactly be considered to be premium...

They are a Slovakian company now owned by Continental.

I wouldn't buy them myself, but they seem to get good reviews for summer use.

BTW it's Matador I'm talking about, not Starfire!

Im sure they are fine but surely for that sort of money you could get a better brand than Matador? I paid less than that for both Kumho and Falkens or my car.

    :D

Yes I agree, last tyres I bought I paid €100 a wheel for Bridgestone Turanzas 16ins, but I think the attraction of the Matadors that they are decent price for big wheel - 18/19in - low-profile tyres. I'd put them in the same bracket as Barums etc.

I don't really buy cheaper tyres anyway, think it's a false economy, and wet performance is usually the first thing to go.

excellent tires all round pushed them in all conditions no problems.
the legacy is a 2.5 AWD
tire snobs are still out there.

after reading reviews and checking on eiretyres.ie I wonder how then Matodor gets only C rating in wet grip, if they are sooooooo good?
