Love windows phones, been the owner of a few. Lg, htc titan and a nokia 520. Just wondering whats the difference between the 625 and the 820? 625 seems to have a bigger screen than the 820, but the 820 has wireless charging and an 8mp camera? Do they both have global drive (here drive+)?

They both seem a similar price sim free.

Perhaps there is a site that compares multiple devices side by side?

Very sutle differences between them, obviously the 625 is a little newer, but software wise they are the same so that doesn't make much difference.

I would go for the 820 personally, I like the camera on it. Taken a lot of good pictures with it, mostly day and well lit but so great shots. The NFC is also a plus, dont think the 625 has nfc iirc which can be handy for tap+share etc

If I recall, the 820 has 1GB RAM and a 1.5 GHz processor, the 625 has 512 MB RAM with a 1.2 GHz cpu. Small differences, but if you're paying the same price why not go for the higher specs?

Sorry don't mean to hijack thread but I can't find a general 820 thread in the first few pages of the forum. Finally convinced my wife to move to a Windows Phone and she's liking the size of the 820. I recently moved to 920 myself which she thinks is too big as a phone.

    1) I'm guessing tomorrow's Nokia event will be all about 1520 and other computer gadgets. Is there any chance anything will replace the 820 (and impact on its selling price)?
    2) Is the 820 future-proofed enough that it'll get windows updates for the next year?
    3) Pricewise is it likely to drop in the run up to Christmas or possibly after Christmas either? i.e. am I mad to be buying one now? Seems like new or nearly new ones can be got on Adverts for less than € 200 anyway.

The screen on the 820 is much better quality.

The 625 is 4G ready but as far as I can see, it's still an entry level Lumia.
But the 820 has been around a while so as I said in another thread, I would drop the 920 from the running and replace it with the 920.

Depends on your needs, most important thing really is the RAM 512 is not enough and cant handle all the apps.Although thats been worked on of late with more apps capable of working on the 512 ram.

The 625 is nice its big but does not have the aspects an 820 does, the 820 will be near end of life soon enough so maybe check out the 920/925/1020.

The 820 will come down in price.

Is there any chance the 925 will drop in price? And will the 32 GB version soon be available outside of Vodafone?

(Sorry to go slightly off topic!)

They all drop in price. But rarely to real bargain levels before they are obsoleted, or unavailable.

    Which apps don't work?

Most of them should work, there are a few that require 1MB RAM. But for 99% you should be ok on 512MB (according to WPCentral).

Thats what I though. I wonder what jimmynokia is thinking though...

In fairness to him, I think he's just being cautious because if you have the 1GB RAM, you are guaranteed that apps will work. If you only have 512MB, so you might run into one that won't work at some point in the future.

It's one of the reasons that I went for the Lumia 920 - it future proofs the phone for a bit more.

A 920 is a big jump in price over the 625 to gain 1% more apps. (not that you bought the 920 simply for that).

The new 525 is meant to have 1GB of ram though. In fact I think the 625 is the only new one with 512mb. I'm thinking it will be a big seller, so will be supported for a long time. The 520 only has a 512mb and is a big seller and I think that put pressure on people to get their apps and games to run with 512mb.

625 offers expandable memory too via the microsd slot but the last phone I had with this feature was the nokia 700 and it wasn't all that it's cracked up to be.

The fact that it isn't a standard feature across the board should sing yards about it.

    Er what?

I had a bad time with the expandable memory element of a previous device due to a difficult interface. I think it looks like nokia are abandoning the feature.

I think you are missing what they are doing. They put a microSD slot on cheeaper devices to make them cheaper. They take it off the more expensive devices as they max out the memory anyway. its also allows them make a device a little slicker with the disadvantage you can swap memory cards or upgrade the capacity later.

Yeah, that makes sense. I just figured that the difficulty I experiences was across the board and they decided to ditch it rather than improve it.

Symbian was a really patchwork OS at that point. At the end of its days. You couldn't really compare it to what OS'es around these days.

That said it had true multitasking which most of the current main mobile OS'es don't.
