Hi my wife is driving a 07 Peugeot 207. The tempeture gauge went up to max today and temp. light came on. She pulled in and when I arrived and checked the water level, the expansion bottle was empty. I topped this up with about 1 litre of water as i couldnt see any other way to fill the rad.i drove the car the 30 miles home and it went as normal. I wondering is there another way to put water in the rad and does less than 1 litre solve the problem.

    Thanking You :)

Water is fine for the moment but you should be using coolant...

You need to find out where the coolant is going...is it leaking internally into oil/cylinders/head gasket or externally rad/coolant hose(s) etc....?

Get it to your mechanic and get him to check it out asap....if it overheated then theres a chance it may have damaged your engine...

Tbh 1 litre is alot as most coolant systems hold around 5-6 litres....I'd get it checked out just to be on the safe side.

Check for leaks, the waterpump might be weeping (assuming they are the same as the slightly older model)...

When did you top up coolant last?

If it was a long time ago maybe it has just got lower over time.
Keep an eye on it every time you fill up with petrol. If it looks to drop fast then there is some issue.

Thanke for all the advice. On the morning after i posted this message, I checked expansion bottle again and it was empty. I topped it up and took it to garage straight away. It appears the leak is as a result of weeping around the thermostat housing. I was told it appears to have perished. Will have to get it replaced and hope this wont cost too much.

    Thanks again for the help.

How much did this cost you, if you can remember?
