Problem with non-sub sky box reception

    I'm having an odd problem.
I've got 2 outlets from my dish, 1 to a Tevion (aldi) box and 1 to a non-sub sky+box set up in different rooms.

Over the last week or so I've been frequently losing the signal on the Sky box but not on the other one. At first I thought it was a tree branch blocking the signal but this has been happening regardless of the weather (branch moving).

The signal comes back for a few hours or days and then goes again.

I haven't tried switching boxes over as it's a lot of hassle and I am under the belief that the free to air and Sky boxes both use the same satellite.
I've checked the connection at the dish and it's sound.

    Help required please.
    Any suggestions welcome.

You'll only really know if you swap the boxes or swapout the Skybox for another receiver. It sounds like the port on your lnb running to the skybox might be failing. If you're using a quad lnb change to another port or if just a dual swap them over and check.

Thanks, I never thought of the lnb as being able to fail.
    It's a quad so spare lnb's.

If it's stopped raining now or in the morning I'll try your suggestion and get back to you.

    Cheers.

    Oh, they do, trust me!

4 LNBs replaced on my Wavefrontier with varying degrees of problems in the past year.

Is it caused by rain getting in or what?.

Isn't it just a straight forward connection with no moving parts or electrical connections?.

Extreme weather can affect them. Let us know how you get on.

But it is more likely to be the Sky box failing.

Now I've got a typical problem.

It's not raining so I could get out and check the lnb, trouble is that this morning all is working well so nothing to check!.

Such is life. There's always another day.

    Always the way mate.

When some of my LNBs were failing they had a habit of doing that!

    Latest update.

As it wasn't raining this morning and Sky box still wasn't working I got the stepladder out. Went back into house and, lo and behold, box was working!!!!!.

Changed the output to another lnb anyway and now we'll wait and see.
If it goes off again I'll have to switch receivers as a test.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll let you know the final outcome.

Switch your Sky+HD box to single feed if you have only one feed going in.

Aha, the old sneaky hidden menu trick!!.

Ok I've done that, now set as single input.
Everything has been fine since changing the lnb, but mustn't forget that it was actually working ok when I did it.

If you don't hear from me within a week or so you know that the problem has been solved. Fingers crossed.

As always, boards members came up trumps.

Thanks for the input and help everybody.
