    doing trig on new sharp EL-W531calculator.

    when I type in tan-1 36/22=4.0185 I should get 58.57deg. its in deg function, cant figure out what wrong.

    Are you sure you have the calculator set to degrees?

    You need to put the term you want to take the inverse tangent of inside brackets i.e. you need to do

    [latex] \tan^{-1}(36/22) [/latex]

    not

    [latex] \tan^{-1}(36)/22 [/latex]

    which is a different expression.
