If I ever get a dog, it's getting one of these dog collars.

It'd guess branding - Social Justice Ireland wants to be taken as a lobby group and not a religious group.

Their homepage mentions Catholic once - you would never guess they evolved from the Conference of Religious in Ireland - a Catholic umbrella group. http://www.socialjustice.ie/content/se%C3%A1n-healy-and-brigid-reynolds-head-social-justice-ireland

And the Conference of Religious in Ireland used to be called the Conference of Major Religious Superiors.

That rebranding came after Charles Haughey had dismissed one of their reports in the Dail with the line: "I am always a bit doubtful about any organisation that has “major” and “superior” in its title." :)

More important than that...is a Jaffa Cake a proper biscuit?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,967 ✭✭✭✭Sarky

Census figure show 84% of Jaffa Cakes consider themselves "biscuit".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,247 ✭✭✭pauldla

But do they understand what it means to be a biscuit? There is nothing in Scripture about chocolate coverings or delicious orangy fillings.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,967 ✭✭✭✭Sarky

They know that biscuits get soft over time while cakes get hard, and that despite being cake, they are also biscuit. You see, a Jaffa Cake is transubstantiated into biscuit by holy means, so that to anyone not looking with their heart they appear to have grown hard as they turned stale, but there is an intrinsic and ineffable spiritual softness to them as a result of the very real presence of magical woo.

Precisely; The Base, the Filling, and the Holy Chocolate Topping. Three delicious foods, One biscuit.

Bloody cake agenda and its propaganda. Totally unwilling to face the consequences of disagreeing with the biscuit establishment. Something intrinsically wrong with them, I tell ya, they should be just ashamed enough to want to change themselves.

Nope - I care not whether it be biscuit or cake. I care that I have a jar of them and they are mank.

The OPS other posts...all about this same priest.

So why isn't this in the catholic forum?

Speaking of tangents, does anyone else think that Werther's Originals are creepy old man sweets?

Because he - whoever he is - is not the thread. Another A&A car crash.

Healy is the head of this anti-poverty group and I too have a problem with his philosophies and that he wants to tax the "rich" which really means the normal income earning PAYE sector. And not his own rich organisation. He was on vin B last night.

A possible more reasonable discussion could be had on AH

The main area of complaint I have about Werther's Originals is that there's no way anybody remembers their first sweet.

A discussion would have happened if the OP had bothered his arse to provide a little explanation or background info, or provided his own opinions on the man. You get what you put in.

Perhaps if, as sarky said, the OP had put some thought into his post and not assumed everyone here in A&A are familiar with every damn priest in the country and spend our evenings watching the telly there would have been a discussion.

In my world Sean Healy is an American artist.

    Hi Frank,

Unfortunately the OP left everyone completely in the dark. I've asked him/her to clarify. If you wish to discuss Sean Healy it's probably best start your own thread with, well, a more directed original post. Then I'll close this biscuits controversy and we can have a more goal orientated thread discussion. In the meantime enjoy this Jaffa Cake,

    :)

I thought priests had to wear dog collars to stand out in de community.it now looks like they are undercover with their shirts and ties.mcverry is de same.what would happen if everyone of them wore shirts and ties? How many of them would appear on tv shows dressed as priests if it was obligatory?

Everyone would think they'd converted to mormonism??

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

Clearly, wearing clerical garb (black shirt and white collar) isn't compulsory, or considered compulsory by a lot of priests in Ireland - be they on tv or otherwise.

Perhaps the choice of wearing a collar (or a religious habit) or not comes down to what works best. Do you think Peter McVerry would be a better advocate for the poor and addicts if he wore a priestly uniform? Ditto Sean Healy. His role has him dealing with civil servants and business people all day....when in rome and all that.

I do think though, for many priests and religious, clerical/religious uniforms are a good idea.
