This is a long overdue change.

It should either become a travelling show. Or it should revert to matchplay.

Oh please not matchplay. The most boring format for excitement and so slow to watch on TV

    Well it originated as matchplay.

I think it the most exciting format by a distance. Maybe doesn't translate so well to TV though (aside from team comps).

Really golf should have one of four "majors" in this format

Works ok for the Ryder Cup.

The singles provides a great finish to the Ryder Cup as there are various matches going on and more often than not, they are exciting and pivotal.

That makes way better TV viewing (and everything comes down to TV these days) in both the Ryder Cup and current USPGA as opposed to watching 2 golfers, maybe or maybe not, battling it out over 4 hours or so in a matchplay final.

The problem with matchplay is it gets less exciting rather than more exciting as the week progresses. This is the complete opposite to strokeplay. The first day of the WGC Matchplay is one of the more exciting pro days of the year, there's actually too much going on for TV to keep up with. The Ryder Cup is similar to this with lots of action taking place at the same time.

The final day of a Major can be really special with many different outcomes possible right up to the very end. By contrast, there are only two possible outcomes on the final day of a Matchplay event and the WGC final is usually tedious because of this. Too much standing around and too little golf. Also, the 17th & 18th holes of Major courses are often the best holes on the course and no one can relax until they get through these holes as a disaster is always possible. With matchplay, the worst that can happen is the loss of one hole and it is quite likely that these holes might not have to be played at all.

I would be strongly against any of the Majors ever reverting to matchplay.

It would definitely be a welcome change to have another major outside the US so long as it doesn't go to the highest bidder - namely some new emerging golf market in a land far far away. I would guess this would be catastrophic for any atmosphere and void of a majority of real golf fans.

Agreed. You need someplace with history and atmosphere. Imagine a major at Royal Melbourne. That would be something special.

Well - unfortunately you are right that TV rules and for that reason you are accurate in what you say.

But you shouldn't be strongly against it because it is the original and best format... That is, unless you are negotiating the TV rights... The USPGA has no identity as it is and sorely could do with one so it's not as if you would be missing a great weekend of TV...

Would love to see it put on a 4 year rota (stroke play) using some classic courses though - One US, Royal Melbourne, one Asia, one Europe.

I'd be the same, I'd pick 4 as above and leave the venues unchanged for as long as possible.
The Masters and The Open stand out over the other 2 for me... For many reasons.... But one big one is that I know the course(s) really well at this stage...what danger lies ahead, what shots will result in trouble etc. I think that adds to it when watching.
When I'm watching a tour event on a course that I'm not familiar with, I feel I'm just watching Pros taking shots for 5 hours. When there's familiarity, I'm watching them play the course... If that makes any sense
