    Hi all,

I'm a Psychologist with a MSc. in Mental Therapies and am interested in starting my own psychology practice. Could anyone give advice on the steps I have to follow?

    Thanks :)

Are you accredited with any of the psychotherapeutic bodies?

At the moment I am a member of the PSI.

    Starting a psychology practice?

    What type of practice?

Are you an Educational, Counselling, Clinical or Organisational Psychologist?

Are you registered in the appropriate division of the PSI?

Are you registered with the equivalent UK body?

Talk to other psychologists who have their own practice.

You will need a premises, insurance, supervision, continious professional and personal development.

How you will seek clients - advertising, referrals, word of mouth?

    Good luck with everything.

All my experience is based in Neuropsychology so my idea is to practice in that area.

I´m member of a psychology body in Spain, but not in the U.K.

Do you think that I should be a member of a U.K. organisation?

I´m registered in the divison of Neuropshychology at the PSI.

I do keep myself update (CPD courses, seminars etc.) and I have already thought of the differents ways I can get clients.

My main doubt is in relation to the legal side of things.

What would I need to know in relation to this?

    Thanks for all your help.

Your best bet is to talk with other neuropsychologists. They'll be able to tell you better. PSI may have information on the legal side.

Essential to be a member/accredited member/registered member of an Irish organisation, but good often to be a member of a British one as they tend to be much better resourced.
