Suzuki Wagon r (1999) hesitates and splutters while accelerating

I bought a 1999 Suzuki wagon r (k10a) 996cc. It was running poorly when i go it but i foung a vaccum pipe off and refitted and now it idles perfectly. The problem is that when it is driven it hesitates and splutters on acceleration. I have changed the spark plugs, tested the trottle position sensor and all seems ok. The fact that it idles fine is trowing me. There is no lights on the dash. The owner told me that sometimes the engine check light will flash and the car wont start but if you take out the key and retry again it starts fine. Now this has not happend tto me yet. I have also replaced the earth wire from body to engine as the other one was poor. The previouss owner also thought that the baterry may be draining itself. Sorry for the long story just want to give as much info as possible. Any ideas?:(

You need a diagnostic scan. Faults can be recorded even though the Engine Management light in not on.
