I need to select a laser type sensor for an application in a harsh environment,

im a biomed engineer so sensors aren't my bread and butter, im more into statistics and fixing process issues

any advise on the things I need to look at ?

sensor will be supplied with 12V

There's not a huge amount of info there to help us, in saying that I'm no expert in sensors either.

Ring Endress & Hauser and talk to someone in sales, they'll be able to help you.

You could also try Festo too.

What is the purpose of the sensor as in what is it to detect ?
Are you looking for some sort of proximity sensor?

    Exactly - more info needed.

What kind of output do you need - analog or discrete?

What are you connecting the sensor to, a PLC, a PC, a relay, a solenoid?

Is the connected device looking for sourcing, sinking, current, voltage,...?

What is the material or object you're looking at?

Describe the harsh environment - do you have explosion hazard for instance?

    Why did you pick laser?
