US Pre Clearance (DUB-PHL-BOS)

In December i fly to Boston with a stopover in Philly for an hour (change of plane) with US Airways, the flight leaves at 11a.m.

I have read conflicting things on here about US Airways offering pre-clearance in Dublin and the times that US Preclearance now operates in Dublin.

Can anyone confirm will I be able to avail of the US Customs Pre Clearance in T2? (it makes no reference on my ticket or itinerary)

    Thanks in advance

From the Dublin Airport website it would seem you pre-clear in Dublin, though you could always ring US airways and ask them

United States Customs and Border Protection

The United States Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) facility at Terminal 2 in Dublin Airport is a purpose built facility that allows US bound passengers to undertake all immigration, customs and agriculture inspections at Dublin prior to departure.

Dublin Airport is one of only a handful of airports outside North America that offer the CBP facility. Having cleared USCBP, passengers arriving in the US are treated as domestic arrivals, which allows for a faster processing through their arrival airport in the United States including the checking through of any baggage to the traveller’s final destination.

There are currently three Aer Lingus US bound flights - two to Boston and the service to Chicago - which do not avail of the USCBP facility at Dublin Airport. More detail about these flights can be found on the airline's website here.

Ring Dublin airport and get them to confirm.

Be aware that if you can't pre-clear at Dublin that you must do it in Philly (point of landing) and an hour connection to collect your bags, clear immigration, check bags and get back through security could be tight.

Does anyone have experience about travelling through Philadelphia Airport. Sending my (pretty old) folks to the US and they will have to go from Terminal B to A to catch a flight to Fort Lauderdale. Is it pretty straight forward to switch between terminals?

A and B are right beside each other - less than 5 mins walk by moving walkway - simple.

The US Airways flight to Philly will preclear Customs and Immigration in Dublin. Did it just before Xmas. Philly is a very easy airport to transit thru. You can easily walk from one terminal to the other and there are lots of signs over head showing you where to go.

When they get off the plane, there will be a small bank of screens showing the arrivals and departures gates for upcoming flights. But they usually only show flights leaving/arriving in the next 30 minutes or so. Odds are your parents flight to FL won't be shown on it. There will be a sign telling passengers where a larger display of screens is located, which shows all the arrivals and departures for the next several hours.

Just be prepared for the rudest Clearance staff imaginable. I have travelled extensively all over the whole world and hands down the Americans are the rudest, most obnoxious and unhelpful staff I have ever, EVER come across in all my journeys. Barking orders at you, screaming at you to step back if you so much as move an inch in the wrong direction, a real air of tension and aggression in the air whenever you are in a busy airport and they are in charge.

You cant ask then any questions because they just ignore you, mock your handwriting and generally act like an a%%hole. I would love to say this is a massive generalization but sadly I havent come across one single America airport staff who were in any way civil.

Have you ever been to Tel Aviv?

Found the US lads grand most of the time. Odd grump but that can happen anywhere.
