Interstate shipping

So after 3 years in Melbourne we are relocating interstate. Have been trying to figure out shipping options. The removalist company prices are insane! Same price to ship to WA as to ship same amount of goods back home to Ireland!! Been thinking about packing the car up and sending it by train, getting extra bags on the flight (can get 5 extra at $30 each) and then organising backloaders for the rest. Anyone relocated interstate (family and house)? Any recommendations? Help please!

The thing about relocating interstate is.. Australia is a big country. If your stuff is going by truck or whatever, it's the time, the truck, fuel,, insurance, and usually minimum two guys - work health & safety.

Source: I know a guy who used to do it. His complaint was always that so many people were surprised that kind of effort cost so much!

Why not do it yourself? roadtrip! :pac: give yourself two weeks including stops.

I understand it is a vast distance to WA.....but it is still a hell of a lot shorter than the trip to Ireland! But the cost is the same.

Anyway we thought about a roadtrip but we wouldn't have 2 weeks, more like 3/4 days. And journey would be a nightmare with 2 children under 5.

    Thanks anyway wooly mammoth.

Just wanted to update for thse who may do this in the future.

Dd some online research and got quotes from removalists, backloaders and self pack companies. After some research and a recommendation from friends we've decided to go with Hannons. Friends used them twice (WA-Vic and back again) with no issues. We will pack boxes ( supplied by them) and dismantle furniture. They wrap furniture and load and unload for you. Includes 4 weeks free storage.
