The price of protein is going up? Haven't seen anything about this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,151 ✭✭✭JohnnyChimpo

Well, that works out to about €16.90/kg, whereas I just bought whey from myprotein.ie at €9.70/kg (bought 2 x 5kg, and had a 15%voucher from email). Admittedly the ON powder is 90% protein, and the myprotein powder is 80%.

But still that works out as €18.77/kg pure protein for the ON, versus €12.12/kg for myprotein. Not shilling for anyone, just thought I'd pass on options.

Again it's not a total like-for-like comparison, since it's unflavoured whey rather than the ON stuff which is flavoured. But honestly I don't think flavourings are worth extra money, since unflavoured is pretty tasty, somewhere between milk and thin pancake batter, nothing too exciting. If you wanted flavour you could bang in a couple of drops of vanilla essence, or some flavouring from somewhere.

You could try the code I used 4657-283B-4104 , but it's probably one use only. Other people might be willing to throw up the codes they got in their email though?

Not a bad deal, but that mix is only 21g protein per 30g serving i.e. 70%. All this stuff is basically the same stuff, sourced from the same dairies, so you might as well just try and get the most protein for your euro, which for me seems to be the myprotein stuff at the moment.

The difference is though the one you got is made up mostly of Whey Protein Concentrate where as the ON one is Whey Protein Isolate which is a much better grade of Whey.

However that said I use the same one as you from MyProtein and its brilliant. But the special offer is also really good value for a bag of Whey Isolate that size, think i'll get me some! Thanks for the tip OP!!

Whey is whey. The difference lies in the amount of whey per serving due to difference in separation techniques. Concentrate (as on myprotein) is usually around 80% whereas isolate (such as ON in the post) is around 90%. Whey isolate is more 'pure' because of a better technique to get the whey but at the end of the day whey is whey, not worth the difference in price IMO. Not a bargain IMO, a good price for ON protein today (not a good price for protein in general); I remember it used to cost €50 in local sport shops 4 years ago but it has consistently gone up in price since then so I've started buying other brands.

Cheapest i can see elsewhere is 92.50. It's good quality stuff. I know the price of protein is due to go up on november 1st, so may be a good time to stock up.

It's 90 but Use code EBEXYZ136TY on checkout to get an extra 15% off

Cheers OP, it's nice to stock up on it as the 2lb barrels are expensive and I'd normally only wait until there on sale through holland & Barrett for that home brand stuff which is way to expensive, just recently bought a barrell of this stuff and want to continue with it.

The voucher code didnt work but I found a 10% one that's used through the mobile site so thats as handy

It's not water. There are huge differences in taste, texture, how well it mixes and how well your stomach takes it. And they are only the very noticeable differences ON is defo one of the best shakes out there

O2 code does not work. I got a 10 per cent code by bringing the purchase to the checkout page and then exiting it. 5 minutes later I had an automated email from elverys giving me a code for 10 per cent!

    Best value I have found:

    http://www.olympushealth.com/olympus-health-premium-protein-5kg.html

Not much more than 40euro delivered for 5KG (11LB). Its getting good attention/coverage at the moment.

Edit: Shipping price has shot up since I last saw it. £15 to deliver. Still cheap at that, but not quite the bargain it once was.

that's dirt its a blend of protein with no way of knowing how much whey is in it, once they put the breakdown in brackets they can put them in any order they like (normally goes in order of the highest content) id put money on it the its mostly soya.

ProXL Blend: (Whey Protein Concentrate, Calcium Caseinate, Whey Protein Isolate, Soya Protein Isolate.) Other Ingredients: l-Glycine, Maltodextrin,Defatted Cocoa Powder, Flavour (Cookies & Cream), Thickener (carboxymethyl cellulose), Sweetener (sucralose)
